First session takes place. Many students need an ally to encourage success. A primary objective of the first tutoring session is to make the student feel comfortable, and assure them that the tutor is their ally. Every first tutoring session integrates a hands-on assessment of the student’s strengths and areas for improvement. During the first session the tutor and student will get to know one another, set goals, complete preliminary assessments including Learning Styles and Reading Level and determine areas for improvement/focus. The tutor will also investigate perceived weaknesses in the classroom, begin to evaluate the need for coaching in foundational academic skills, and recommend schedule for additional sessions.
